Potatoes are rich in starch and this starch if taken uncooked leads to digestive problems, bloating and stomach gas. Keep off green potatoes since they have high concentrations of solanine which are a very poisonous toxin. Solanine can cause nausea and headaches even when taken in the smallest doses. For the least risk and most benefit from potatoes, steam, bake, sauté you potatoes before consumption.
Sprouts are as tasty as alfalfa and radish and are usually used as atop salad. They should be used with a lot of caution, however. In their uncooked form, sprouts are a hotspot for various harmful bacteria. Salmonella, listeria and E. coli are the best-known bacteria that reside in raw sprouts. Pregnant women, the elderly and young children should avoid them since their immune nay be compromised.
Raw honey is available in most supermarkets and stores nowadays. Most people use it as a natural sweetener. Avoid giving raw honey to young children because it is unpasteurized and may contain grayanotoxin. Grayanotoxin is a toxin that occurs naturally and present rhododendron nectar that makes honey. This toxin can cause hypertension, vagal block, and dizziness.
Raw milk is not pasteurized hence will contain listeria, salmonella, and E.coli. These bacteria are usually killed when milk undergoes pasteurization. These toxins are responsible for many illnesses and diseases, and you should avoid raw milk or even foods cooked with it.
This plant has starchy roots which can be eaten boiled, fried or mashed and contains a lot of nutrients. Raw yucca, however, contains cyanide. They must be well dried and soaked before to kill this harmful toxin and should be avoided in their raw form.
